Top Tips to Help You Prepare for Summer Festivals

For many, the festival season marks the peak of summer. Being outside in the sunshine singing and dancing along to your favourite bands and making fun memories with friends.

Whether you’re a seasoned festivalgoer or this is your first one, there’s a lot you’ll need to prepare. That goes beyond remembering to pack wellies for the mud!

Read our top tips to help and share them with your group!

Preparing your car

Taken on the role of designated driver for an upcoming festival? Then, there are a few things you’ll need to prepare for your car to make sure the journey goes smoothly.

Before setting off, you’ll need to check your car’s:

  • Tyres – ensuring they are all in good condition, with at least 3mm of tread depth.
  • Lights – checking headlights, rear lights, and fog lights to make sure they are all working.
  • Brakes – to make sure they remain responsive and working correctly.
  • Fluids – topping up any oil, brake fluid, or windscreen washer fluid as needed.

It may sound obvious, but you’ll also want to make sure your tyres are all inflated and you have a full tank of fuel. Or a fully charged battery if you drive an electric car! You might want to pack a tyre pump too in case you get a flat tyre along the way.

Don’t forget to replace your wiper blades if you notice them looking worn or performing less efficiently.

Having good visibility on the road is important in helping you get to your destination safely. Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean you won’t need them, as we all know how unpredictable the weather can be with sudden showers

Packing all the essentials

It can be hard to know what to take with you to a festival, especially with the UK’s unpredictable weather. Depending on the size of your car, you won’t be able to fit the kitchen sink in either, so you’ll have to take only what you need.

We’ve put together a basic packing list to help you get started:

  • Food and snacks such as protein bars, crisps, nuts, and instant noodles if you’re taking a portable stove.
  • Camping equipment including a tent, pegs, guide ropes, and a torch etc.
  • Clothes for all weather conditions including a waterproof jacket, trousers and wellies. Remember items to keep you warm on a night-time too!
  • Charging cables for your devices which can be plugged into your car or power banks
  • A first aid kit containing plasters, sanitary wipes and painkillers for any injuries (or hangovers!)
  • Toiletries like dry hair shampoo for long hair, deodorant, toothpaste and a toothbrush. With busy public toilets, it might be handy to take some toilet rolls with you in case festival staff don’t get around to replenishing them right away!
  • Good shoes like flat boots or waterproof trainers you can walk around site in comfortably when not wearing wellies.
  • Suncream and sunglasses – when you’re out in the sun all day, it’s vital to protect your skin by applying suncream regularly. You should also wear a hat and sunglasses to protect your scalp and eyes, and stay hydrated to avoid sunstroke.

This list is by no means exhaustive, so you may want to make a more detailed list of your own and check things off as you go. Don’t forget some of the more fun stuff too like face paint, glitter, and funky hats or glasses!
