How To Identify & Use Different Windscreen Wiper Fitments
Hook Windscreen Wiper Adaptor
Most likely to be used on: Older, common vehicles
This is the most common type of windscreen wiper adapter, found mostly on older vehicles. It is distinguished by its ‘J’ or ‘U’ hooked shape that slots across and into the wiper blade. It will click when it secures in place.
Side Pin Windscreen Wiper Adaptor
Most likely to be used on: Older vehicles
The Side Pin adaptor has a small pin on the wiper arm that fits into a hole on the wiper blade attachment. Align the pin with the hole and clip the two together for installation.
Bayonet Windscreen Wiper Adaptor
Most likely to be used on: European vehicles
Similar to a bayonet lightbulb fitment, this adaptor has small groove that slots into a hole on the wiper blade arm. You then simply need to align these to slot and lock them into place.
Pinch Tab Windscreen Wiper Adaptor
Most likely to be used on: Newer vehicles
Pinch tab adaptors require you to pinch the tab on the adaptor to release the old wiper blades. To fix new wiper blades, compress the tab once more to slide the new fitting into place before it locks.
Push Button Windscreen Wiper Adaptor
Most likely to be used on: Newer vehicles
This fitting features a square button that releases and locks the wiper securely in place
Wrist Action Windscreen Wiper Adaptor
Most likely to be used on: Vintage vehicles
Sometimes called a flat hook adaptor, this fitting features a flat bar with a curved end
Dead Locker Windscreen Wiper Adaptor
Most likely to be used on: Vintage vehicles
Sometimes referred to as a pin connector, this fitting features a small arm underneath the wiper arm that releases a lock.
Saddle Hook Windscreen Wiper Adaptor
Most likely to be used on: Vintage vehicles
A Saddle Hook adaptor has a small hook at the end that connects to the wiper arm.
